What the Original Real Housewives of New York Cast Is Saying About the Reboot

Ramona Singer, Luann de Lesseps, Kelly Bensimon, Kristen Taekman, and Dorinda Medley appear at NBC Upfronts and discuss Bravo's reboot of the Real Housewives of New York franchise.

After thirteen seasons the original Real Housewives of New York cast is passing their apples on to a new group of fabulous and chic New York women.

Season 14 of the Real Housewives of New York premiered on Sunday, July 16 to rave reviews. On social media, Bravo fans gushed about how the RHONY reboot feels “fresh” and “authentically New York” with good fashion and “aspirational living.”

The reboot gives off “classic housewives vibes” and is full of “petty nonsense” that Bravo fans love.

Now, we are learning about what the original New York Housewives have to say about the reboot.

“I think it’s gonna be interesting to watch,” Luann de Lesseps told E! News. “I think it’s [a] really hard first season, you know, on any show. When we first did the Housewives, we had no idea it would take off the way it did, so I wish them luck.”

“For the new New York cast, if I were to give them any advice, it’s just to be good at being yourself,” the Countess later told Bravo’s The Daily Dish. “Be true to yourself because the camera doesn’t lie.”

Sonja Morgan agrees, urging the new New York Housewives to create “a baseline of trust” within the cast and “build a team spirit.”

Luann added, “I wish them a lot of luck because we’re hard people to follow.”

Meanwhile, Luann appeared on Ramona Singer’s Turtle Time podcast in July 2023 where she shared her latest feelings on the RHONY reboot.

“They have gotten their younger, diverse cast,” Luann said. “I wish them luck. We had a great run. I have no hard feelings and I feel like, at this point, I’m really enjoying doing Crappie Lake. So, you know, I wish them the best and let’s see how it goes.”

OG New York Housewife, Ramona Singer, shared her thoughts on the Real Housewives of New York reboot while appearing on Melissa Gorga’s On Display podcast.

“It’s a different era,” Ramona said of the reboot. “Bravo knows what they’re doing.”

Fellow OG Jill Zarin wished the new ladies of RHONY the “best” while chatting with PEOPLE.

“I would love the opportunity to kind of pass the baton virtually to them and say, ‘Wishing you the best, and just keep it real,’” Jill said before giving the group some sage advice. “Just keep it real, would be my advice.”

Dorinda Medley

Dorinda Medley made it nice for six seasons on the Real Housewives of New York so she’s “really excited” to what the new cast brings to the New York Housewives franchise.

“I think it’s such a beautiful thing to watch these girls from all different areas of New York; they are a very diverse group,” Dorinda told OK! Magazine. “That’s what was so beautiful when they walked on stage.”

She added that it will be “interesting to see how they navigate” the show as friends, mothers, wives, and businesswomen.

“You have to remember, we are in our 50s, so the world that we navigated was a very different world. Women today have financial power, they have children, they have devices!” Dorinda noted.

Bethenny Frankel

Of course, Bethenny Frankel had to shade the RHONY reboot. The Skinnygirl mogul thinks Bravo should have rebooted RHONY under a different name while saying that the new cast seemed “ready for frame” unlike the OG cast.

“It’s definitely very different. It’s an entirely different show,” Bethenny said on her ReWives podcast. “It’s obviously different because it’s different people on it…it could have a different name.”

“The women are very, very seasoned coming in, very prepared. They seem like they’ve gone to Fame University, you know what I mean? They’re ready for fame,” she continued.

As for whether or not Bethenny will be watching the RHONY reboot, Bethenny said: “It’s a great thing when I’m asked [if I’m going to watch the reboot], and then I say it and it sounds like I’m shading it. I probably won’t, just because I don’t watch a lot of Housewives. I watch more [reality TV] for work than I ever did in my real life.”
